All this talk about PS3, crazy people camping out, getting whacked over the head by other people, and unfortunately getting shot.

Right now, the price for PS3 is just. It makes me puke. That's like half a month of my paycheck! No way, not until I get a career at least. So, seeing as I've been itching to play FFX EVER SINCE THE DAY INFO LEAKED ABOUT IT, would you think it's a good time to invest in a PS2?

I just have a few questions that I'm sure some people here know the answers too. I would search it all up, but I have no clue where to start (coughlazycough)!

What was the price of PS2 when it first came out?
PS2 games, played on PS3 games, supposedly makes the graphics look more detailed/better?
Do you think the PS2 price will drop after Christmas again? Or is it perfectly safe to buy one now at $129.99 CDN?
PS3 game I only really want to play/look forward to is FFXIII... which will probably be out Q4 2007... so would be best to wait till then, hopefully more upgraded and cheaper versions of PS3 to come out?
What would you do in my position! By PS2 or PS3? (Keeping in mind that I don't really plan to play any other genre games except RPGs... no first person shooters and what not for me).

I heard that their was no backward compatibility on the PS3. Could be wrong though. If their isnt it will be a MAJOR turn off for me.

No, it's true. Blu-ray is retarted. Plus, there are already reports of severe hardware faliures, and toys'r'us told my friend as he picked up his Wii that there was a recall in effect for toys'r'us ps3's.

The PS2 Is still a darn fine system in my opinion. Easily the best library of games of the last console generation.

-The price of the PS2 when it first came out was...$299(!) when it first came out.
-I'm not sure but I seriously doubt that PS2 games look better on the PS3
-Considering that Sony has made a console jump It would be safe to guess the PS2 would go down in cost soon enough
-It's hard to say if the PS3 will lower it's cost by FFXIII, but I have a good feeling it could go down by then.
-I would go with the PS2 personally, right now there are very few real good PS3 games out right now, and barely any RPG's.

Also when you get the PS2, get Guitar Hero 2

But yeah do whatever you think is right.

Manaleak, thanks for the summarization. Considering the price drop, how much do you think it would drop? 10? 20? 40? And how long do you think it'll be till it happens?

I dunno, found myself really bored lately, and been watching some FFX clips, and I really want to play, even though this game is like 3 years old... I still haven't the slightest clue who the main character is! Big FF fan, so yeah.

I'm just swayed to go pick it up tomorrow though, and watch it drop by $30 the next day. Agh.

My guess is the PS2 would drop price a little bit before the Holiday season. However it's possible that Sony could simply inqnore the PS2 and focus on selling the PS3.
As for how much it would drop I would guess maybe $20 bringing it around $100. But who knows.

Also some other good PS2 games (Not all are Rpgs but I enjoyed them)
Kingdom Hearts 1&2 (Final Fantasy Meets Disney, it's better than it sounds)
Katamari Games (Just plain fun)
God of War 1&2 (one of the best action games in a long while)
